PIAA Softball, Baseball Quarterfinals Set for Thursday; 5 Schuylkill County Teams Still Alive

Local teams are 3 wins away from state gold

Thursday is the quarterfinal round of the PIAA softball and baseball playoffs. There are five teams representing Schuylkill County schools still alive in a chase of state gold.

Here is a rundown of the schedule of games for Thursday.

Class 2A Softball

Williams Valley (22-2) will take on District 1 champs Bristol in the quarterfinal round Thursday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Exeter Township High School. 

Williams Valley took down Halifax, 3-0, in the first round. Bristol coasted by Philadelphia Academy Charter, 15-0 in 3 innings, on Monday.

Thursday’s winner wil take on the winner of South Williamsport and West Shamokin on Monday, June 9.

Class 3A Softball

Pine Grove Area will face District 3 runner-up Kutztown Area in the quarterfinal round. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Exeter Township High School. 

The Lady Cards got by Trinity, 7-2, in the first round on Monday. Kutztown outlasted Loyalsock, 11-10, to reach the quarterfinal round. 

Thursday’s winner will take on the either Nazareth Academy or Mid Valley in the semifinals.

Class 4A Softball

North Schuylkill will face District 2 champs Valley View in Thursday’s quarterfinal round. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Wilkes University.

North Schuylkill took down Conwell Egan, 16-13, in the first round on Monday. Valley View eliminated Northern Lebanon on Monday, 1-0.

The winner of Thursday’s game will face the winner of Interboro and Northwestern Lehigh.

Class 1A Baseball

Nativity BVM will face District 2 champion MMI Preparatory School on Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals. First pitch is 1 p.m. at North Schuylkill High School.

The Hilltoppers defeated Dock Mennonite on Monday, 7-6. MMI got by York Christian School, 5-2.

Thursday’s winner will take on the winner of Cowanesque Valley and Southern Fulton.

Class 2A Baseball

Tri-Valley will face District 6 champion Mount Union in Thursday’s quarterfinal round. First pitch is 4 p.m. at Big Spring High School.

The Dawgs advanced by topping Holy Redeemer on Monday, 6-5. Mount Union routed Montgomery, 13-0 in 5 innings.

Thursday’s winner will face the winner of South Williamsport and Faith Christian.
