A Pottsville man is facing an aggravated assault charge after he allegedly struck another man in the head with a piece of cement during a fight on the city’s East Side Monday night.
According to information from Pottsville Bureau of Police, the incident happened in the area of N. George and E. Norwegian streets at about 9:15 p.m. Monday. Police say they responded to a report of a fight in progress. On their way, they learned that one of the participants in the fight had been stabbed.
During their investigation, police say they learned that Jody James Schneider, 40, struck Kydiere Teel, 27, in the head with a piece of cement and then punched him about the head and face multiple times.
Teel reportedly responded by pulling out a knife and stabbing Schneider one time in the chest. That ended the fight.
Police say Teel fled the area in a black sedan but was later found at the Lehigh Valley Hospital-East emergency room suffering from severe trauma to the back of his head, including brain bleeding, significant bruising to his face, and numerous cuts and abrasions on his body. He was later rushed by medical helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for further treatment of his serious injuries.
Upon their arrival, EMS personnel and police gave aid to Schneider to treat his stab wound. He was later airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest due to the severity of his injuries.
Police say aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment charges are being filed against Schneider. Teel is not currently facing any charges related to this incident.
